G A M E    R U L E S

Game Length 14 minute halves, stop-time
Running Time Initiated any time a team is up by 15 points or more with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game
Halftime 4 minutes long
Overtime 3 minutes, stop-time
Time-outs 4 time-outs per team, per game (45 seconds in length)
1 additional time-out awarded per team, per overtime period. Time outs do accumulate. Any unused time-outs carry over into overtime.
Full Court Press Allowed at any point during the game unless your team is up by 12 points or more.

In 4th and 5th grade games, full court man-to-man press is allowed only during the last three minutes of each half unless your team is up by 6 points or more. In the event of overtime, press is permitted for the last three minutes of each overtime period unless your team is up by 6 points or more.

Scorebook Each team must provide their own scorebook and a scorekeeper who shall sit at the scorer’s table. If only one scorekeeper chooses to sit at the scorer’s table, that scorebook automatically becomes the official game book. Nobody sitting in the bleachers or team bench with a scorebook shall be the “home” book. Acton-Boxborough Travel Basketball will provide a scoreboard operator for all games.
Defense Style Zone defense or zone press is not permitted at the 4th and 5th grade level. Zone trapping or playing a zone on in bounds plays is prohibited at the 4th and 5th grade level. Help defense on fast breaks / drives to the hoop is permitted. A player may have a foot in the lane however if s/he is two passes away from the ball.

No restrictions on defense at any other age levels.

Three Point Shots Will be counted in all divisions.
Shot Clock Will not be used in any division.
10 Second/Backcourt Will be enforced in all divisions.
Free Throws Boys 4, Boys 5, Girls 5, and Girls 6 shooter must start with both feet behind the 15.0′ free throw line but may carry over to the 13.5′ line on their shot release.
Ball Size Boys 4, 5 & 6; All girls divisions: 28.5″ women’s regulation
Boys 7 & 8: 29.5″ men’s regulation
Warm-up Time Minimum of 5 minutes. If we are behind schedule, the five minutes begins immediately following the ending buzzer of the previous game.
